We are very involved with our kittens and handle them from the time they are born. The kittens stay in a birthing box with mom until they are able to toddle around on their own usually at about three weeks of age. Once the kitten box is gone they are all over the "Kitten Room". The Kitten Room is our guest bedroom and there is always someone sleeping in there with the kittens. As soon as they are able to climb on the bed they are snuggled up with someone.
We keep our kittens until they are 16 weeks old. There are several reasons for this: by this time they be given all their adult shots including Rabies, they are big enough to be spayed or neutered and the most important reason is that they have spent time with adult cats that teach them some manners. The last month that they are with us they learn how to behave because if they are naughty an adult cat will put them in their place. All of our kittens are litter trained, eat dry food and eagerly await an person to spend time with.
